Alcazar Andalusian Stud, located on the mid North Coast of NSW, is home to two of Australia's most highly regarded P.R.E. stallions, Eco V and Necesario II (imported from Spain).
Our focus is to breed Andalusians (PRE's) of the highest quality in terms of performance, conformation and temperament. All our horses have straight movement, superb natures and a wonderful willingness to learn.
Our horses greet us in the paddock (even the foals from the moment they're born) and love the company of people. They are trusting, friendly and well handled.
Depending on the dam and sire, some foals are bred specifically for working equitation (being agile, balanced & compact), whilst others (with the necessary requirements of height and big, impressive movement) are bred for high level, competitive dressage.
It was during a visit to Seville that I fell in love with this ancient breed, the Andalusian also known as the Pure Spanish horse or P.R.E. (Pura Raza Espanõla).
Andalusians are easily recognised by their strong, compact, yet elegant build with long, thick manes and tails. As I happily discovered, they are also renowned for their intelligence, sensitivity and docility.
During more recent visits to Andalucia, I was fortunate enough to stay at one of the most highly regarded PRE studs in Spain, Yeguada Candau (breeder of multiple "Champions of Spain", and birthplace of our own stallion Necesario).
I subsequently spent a week at SICAB, the largest PRE fair in the world and another week at Feria del Caballo in Jerez watching the morphology classes with top Spanish breeders. During these times, I learned a great deal about the most desirable conformation, movement, bloodlines and methods of training the Spanish horse.
Over its centuries of development, the Andalusian breed has been selected for athleticism and stamina. The horses were originally used for classical dressage, carriage driving, bullfighting, and as stock horses.
Today's Andalusian and its derivatives are a versatile breed, excelling in many disciplines including dressage, hacking, eventing and working equitation. They are highly trainable with an amazing ability to retain information and a very strong work ethic. Once you have formed a bond with an Andalusian, your heart will be forever lost to this majestic, noble creature. There simply is no looking back, once you've known and loved an Andalusian.
